A few months ago, a Cavalier pup named Gunner and his dad, Richard Wilbanks, became famous on the internet due to their encounter with an alligator. The two were having their regular morning walk when the hungry reptile snatched Gunner and took him into the water. Wilbanks immediately saved the pup without any hesitation by opening the jaws of the gator using his bare hands.
Gunner also showed his courage during the incident. Despite his small size, he managed to survive the terrifying attack. He mustered the strength to run away as soon as his dad pried open the gator’s jaw. A wildlife camera caught their encounter with the alligator, and the footage received millions of views on the internet.
Wilbanks and Gunner learned their lesson from the incident and vowed to be cautious next time. Their viral video also reminded everyone to be careful in areas where wildlife thrives. On another note, their video warmed the hearts of several dog-lovers. After all, seeing a man do everything he can to save his pup is just heartwarming.
Now that Gunner has fully recovered from the incident, he and his dad received recognition for their bravery. Their local Sheriff’s office recruited Gunner to be an official member of their law enforcement team. The pup received the title of Safety and Security Officer for Deputy Dogs. According to Sheriff Marceno of Lee County, Gunner’s tenacity and fight for survival made him the perfect candidate for the position.
The Lee County Sheriff’s Office held an inauguration ceremony to mark Gunner’s recruitment. In the said ceremony, the pup received the Sheriff’s pin with pride and enthusiasm. His dad, Wilbanks, was very proud of him, which was evident in his eyes beaming eyes.
We are proud of you, Gunner! You deserve to be a Safety and Security Officer for Deputy Dogs. And we can’t wait to see you thrive as the newest Deputy Dog in town.
