Momma dogs are basically superheroes, typically having multiple births throughout their lifetime. But this particular dog from Swindon is a certified rockstar. Cali gave birth to an unbelievably huge litter, delivering 20 puppies in all.
No one is more shocked and prouder than Amber Rees. The 20-year-old newly registered breeder has been anticipating the arrival of Cali’s brood and has prepared accordingly. However, she has been expecting only eight puppies at most, as was advised by the vet after Cali’s scan.
It wasn’t difficult labor and delivery at first. Within just a few minutes, Cali has delivered the puppies, but when they got to number eight, she has not shown any sign of stopping. When she delivered the 12th pup, they had to bring the exhausted mom to the vet.
It became a little bit traumatic when they learned that some of the puppies are not yet ready to be born. Cali was given an injection to assist her in pushing the last few puppies out. Only eleven survived, but these are all healthy and strong pups. She really did an excellent job considering that it was Cali’s first pregnancy and that more puppies survived than what is expected by the vets.
It has been a week since Calli gave birth, and the new mom has regained enough strength to be back to her usual amusing self. She is a great mom to her litter, and the puppies have been growing fast. Amber describes their new life as crazy and chaotic, but they are having so much fun.
Amber is planning to sell the pups as soon as they are old enough. She named the runt Bambi but has been having problems coming up with names for the rest. Anyway, she is expecting that buyers would soon rename them. After her success with Calli, she plans to work as a canine breeder full time.
