Dogs are known to love water. They will spend hours either playing around water or swimming in it. But while this is true for most dogs, some think otherwise.
To some dogs, playing with the water sprinkler may be loads of fun, but swimming in a big pool is a different story. I once had a dog who gets excited when the garden sprinkler comes on, but when we take him to swim in a pool, he runs away and won’t go anywhere near the water.
The big, adorable dog in the featured video below is no stranger to being scared of the pool himself. Sampson does not like swimming. His parents brought him to the pool to learn how to swim, and of course, to show him that the pool is not such a bad idea.
In the video, Sampson can be seen being carried by his dad in the pool. The dog hangs on for dear life as his dad gently moves around in the pool, showing the dog that the water is fine, but Sampson doesn’t want any of it. Instead of jumping into the water, he tries his best to hang on to his dad and not fall into the water.
Sampson’s mom, who is behind the camera, can be heard saying, “hold on tight,” as the dog begins to hang on to his dad frantically. His dad asks him, “Wanna swim?” When he slowly dips the dog into the water, Sampson wraps his paws around his dad, not wanting to fall in.
We understand the water can be a little terrifying at first, and Sampson does not seem to be enjoying his time in the pool. But after a few more encouragements to swim, Sampson finally faces his fear of the water and swims! He’s quite a good swimmer, too!
Sampson swims towards the pool’s edge and into the stairs where the water is not too deep. He looks back at his dad and seems proud of his achievement. He even drinks the water to show it who’s boss! What a brave boy.
Watch Sampson learn to face his fear of water in the video below.
