Figo, a golden retriever service dog, was hailed as a hero. He saved his blind owner, Audrey Stone, from an oncoming bus. He dove in front of the bus to save his blind owner’s life.
Both Audrey and Figo suffered some severe injuries. Figo was also not in good shape, but he still stayed beside his blind owner’s side until help finally arrived. People have seen that Figo put his body in between his owner and the oncoming bus to save her.
Figo had to undergo surgery. His front legs and paws were severely damaged because of the accident. During his recovery, he had to be apart from Audrey and spent time with his trainers.
While recovering, Figo had to undergo therapy. He was monitored on the clock and was retrained before he could return to duty. He needed enough time to heal and recover before he could see his owner again.
Figo’s story was all over the news. He was on every television channel, both local and international. His story touched so many people.
People all around the world loved his story. They sent him cards and toys while he was recovering. He received a lot of gifts and even donations for his surgery.
Audrey, Figo’s owner, had to take time as well to recover and heal. She has been separated from Figo for months. It would take time for them to see each other and enjoy walks in the park and some playtime too.
After fully recovering from his injuries, Figo returned home, and he received a hero’s welcome. Although he was given a lot of gifts, he was happier with the fact that he is now with his owner.
Figo was considered a Hero Dog. The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals presented him with its Dog of The Year award. This was incomparable to the happiness he was feeling just being back in Audrey’s arms.
