Blaze is a ten-year-old Labrador Retriever who lives in Finland with his owner. He’s a huge fan of the outdoors, and he has all the traits one would expect a Labrador Retriever to have. Well, almost all of it, that is.
When Blaze was born, he had a shiny black coat covering his body. His fur stayed that way for most of his life. As he grew older, however, things began to change. He developed white patches on different parts of his body.
Santeri, Blaze’s owner, was alarmed when he saw the white patches. He took the pup to the vet to have him checked. After careful examination, the doctor revealed that Blaze has vitiligo. It’s a long-term skin condition that occurs when melanocytes cease the production of melanin, thus causing white patches to appear on one’s skin.
While changes in physical appearance can sometimes cause depression, the patches didn’t mind Blaze at all. He remained the happy, energetic dog he’s always been. His thirst for adventure and desire to explore places never ceased, much to the delight of Santeri.
With love from the Internet
When Santeri uploaded a photo of Blaze on Dogspotting Society, an influential Facebook group, it immediately went viral. People complimented his coat, which had then turned into a beautiful blend of white and black. Blaze’s photo was so mesmerizing people failed to stop themselves from flooding it with positive comments and sharing it with their network.
Blaze no longer looks like the black pup that Santeri used to look after. His physical features may have changed, but for his fur dad, he’s still the same Labrador Retriever who loves sitting beside him at the dinner table. The one who’d make his heart melt each time he flashes those big brown eyes as he asks for a snack.
